Nigerian
singer Goldie is dead. The shocking news stunned the nation on Thursday
February 14, 2013. Reports first came in from Linda Ikeji, a popular
Nigerian blogger who quoted Derenle Edun, Goldie’s best friend as saying
that Goldie died in his arms at the Reddington hospital in Victoria
Island, Lagos.
Goldie
who was at the recently held Grammy Award ceremony returned back to
Nigeria on Thursday, February 14, 2013. She was brimming with life and
bustling with energy until ‘something’ tragically went wrong. Derenle
was reported to be in so much shock and agony that he cried and turned
his phone off.
By way of confirmation, Goldie’s management have issued a short statement on her facebook page . “It is with heavy heart that I have to inform you all that Goldie passed this night shortly after arriving Lagos from LA. May her soul rest in the eternal peace of the Lord – Admin!!,” it said. While on twittersphere, confirmation keeps pouring in from an increasing number of Nigerian artistes including Don Jazzy, and Denrenle.
Kennis Music, her record label has released an official statement via the CEO Kenny Ogungbe. It reads;
“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.
